Eminent Kaos – Marietta, GA gig

January 13, 2016 – Marietta, GA – Swayze’s

Well finally, another Eminent Kaos gig and I was on the guest list. Unfortunately the last gig with Sadistic on vocals.

But before I get to that, let me vent about the venue. This place gave me an idea to write a venue guide (and maybe start one of my own in the future). I have seen a lot of venues I have disliked, but this place is a dump. Missing ceiling tiles, one toilet, no alcohol license and dark as hell. The PA system seemed shot too, acoustic wasn’t so great.

But back to the musical evening. There were other bands playing, but due to work, my focus was on Eminent Kaos. I did however get a chance to hear a little bit of Yurp. Not a bad band actually. ThunderShield from Dallas, GA were scheduled, but cancelled.

Anyway, Damien Crux was sick, but unlike other bands I have experienced in the past year, showed up and gave it all he got (and you could not tell by his performance that he wasn’t feeling well). The band opened up the evening with “Absolution”. A slow start in this so-called “venue” that was more of a big party room.

They continued with “Little Angel”, another slower song and then played “Madness” (the Sabbath sounding song). This is where, for me, the evening started getting better (I love that song).

Next up, “Sin”. This one really upped the beat, it rocks. Although there wasn’t a big turnout, Sadistic jumped off stage and was fist bumping people in the audience. He was very enthusiastic on stage and his lung volume surprised me (he is a smoker like me), I am curious how the band will replace him. “No Sacrifice” was next and drumsticks were flying around (just like last time). The song felt slower than usual and Rev told me afterwards his hand was cramping a bit which I didn’t notice during the gig.

“Nothing Lasts” (right, Sadistic?)

“Never Alone” was a bit more bluesy and brought the tempo to a bit of a slower beat. Problem in this venue, you couldn’t  hear the quieter singing parts (and Sadistic stated later that he couldn’t hear himself either, shitty PA like I said). “Beast” followed and it really rocks, I love this one.

“My Pain”, a newer song that I had already had the privilege of hearing during their rehearsals. A typical Eminent Kaos song, good fit. I especially love the guitars on this one. Rev and Damien both compliment each other with the guitars. A fitting last song, after O’Mallie dislocated his shoulder whilst drumming (which I didn’t notice either, these guys are professionals).

The band had fun, I had fun, the audience had fun. The evening was great, just too bad I had to work the next day. We will miss Sadistic, but one of the new applicants for vocals was there. We shall see who it will be.

I wish the band good luck and Sadistic too. Although the venue was crap and considering the injuries/non well-being of some of the band, they played a really professional gig and were all spot on the whole time.
