For over decade now I have been a massive fan of theirs, and I have been eagerly awaiting each and every one of their albums over the last 10 years. When the announced that they were working on the Wikka Woman album, I went straight out and pre ordered it.
For people who don’t know Inkubus Sukkubus, they are a 3 piece band from Gloucestershire, UK, they are Candia on vocals, Tony on guitar and Dean Rhodes on Bass, they do use a drum machine.
When Wikka Woman came through the letter box I was excited and played the album straight away. the first that came on is Drawing Down The Moon, what a track this is, now I know that Tony has written some tracks with his band Vampire Division and they have appeared on some OST’s in the past. with Drawing Down The Moon I can see this song being used either for a horror Film or TV series as it has that haunting quality to it.
Wikka Woman is the second song and title track off the album, and it is one of my favourite songs. Candia’s vocals on this track are amazing and the same with Tony’s guitar playing, and you can see for yourself in the video below to see what I mean about Candia and Tony.
Vale Of Eden is up next. This song is primarily an acoustic arrangement, and this gives the song some gravitas to a hauntingly beautiful track that is brilliantly written and performed by the Inkies. Track 4 is Field Of The Nymphs and like Wikka Women this is another stand out track for me, I don’t know what it is about this track, I think its the combination of the guitars, vocals and the backing vocals that makes me like this song to the point that this has gone onto my playlist.
Dead Of The Night is a sublime song that blends a piano to the Goth Rock guitars and vocals perfectly, this ballad is really good as it has some tubular bells on this as well they make the sound that little bit richer. Storm Witch – Hymn Of The Tempestarii is next and this is another track that uses the electric guitar to good effect, and they will get you up and make you want to dance.
Lake Of Suicide is another acoustic track, and but this time they have used orchestral instruments with in the arrangement and is another beautifully written song and deals with a subject matter that can be overlooked by many.
Lost With The Maenads and Goddess Of Darkness And Light are really tracks that they will really good and they will be going on to my playlist, as Inkubus Sukkubus create some awesome music that can lift the spirit.
Memento Mori like the first track it has that epicness and scope I can see this being on a soundtrack of a horror film.
Well I have listened to this album a good few times, and the shear scale of it is big and this might be one of the best albums they have created, it is definitely up there with The Beast with Two Backs, The Dark Goddess and Barrow Wake.
I would give the Wikka Woman album a 5 out of 5 for a brilliant album
