A few days ago I received an email from The Shiva Hypothesis, so I thought “OK, whats this?” and I opened the mail and downloaded the 2015 Promo E.P. and started to listen to the 3 track E.P.just to get the feel for it before I get started the review.
Now The Shiva Hypothesis are a Black Metal band from the Netherlands.
The Promo E.P. starts off with the track Caduceus, this is what I imagined a black metal band should sound like, with the pounding drums, the heavier thrashing guitars and the screaming death growl, OK this song is 5 minutes 34 seconds but bliss to find a band that took the time to find what they want to do, and to do it well, so the quality of the production on this track is excellent.
Praedormitium is pretty much 6 minutes long and like the first track it carries on with the sound of excellence, it some elements of world music on this track which really compliments it to the overall sound of the song. Plus some of the Death Growls are more brutal on this, and and so is the drumming and guitars.
Maze of Delusion, with this song being just over 9 minutes long, this is what you would call a typical metal song length. It is slightly slower in tempo some parts, and it has killer shredding and sublime riffs in the Black/Death Metal genre. There is death growls aplenty on this track.
There are some pretty impressive Mongolian Throat Singing on part of Caduceus and at the beginning of Praedormitium. The throat singing is definitely ideally suited to the Death and Black Metal genres, as it does give those somewhat depth to the genres.
I would give The Shiva Hypothesis a 4.5 out of 5
